Some children want to become cricketers or even actors, something similar is the story of Indian cricketer R Ashwin. Whose parents wanted him to become an engineer but he followed his profession and left engineering and became a cricketer.

Father was fast bowler

R Ashwin was born on 17 September 1986 in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Ashwin’s father’s name is Ravichandran. Who was a fast bowler in the Southern Railway quota. While Ashwin’s mother’s name is Chitra. R Ashwin received his schooling from Padma Sheshadri Bal Bhavan. But due to lack of adequate sources of cricket and other sports in the school, he changed school and enrolled in another school in the city, St. Paul’s Bed and took further education. R Ashwin also started playing cricket from this school.

surgery at the age of 14

R Ashwin continued to perform well as a fast bowler for his school team for a few years. But at the age of 14, he suffered a serious injury to the ligament in his left leg. The injury was so severe that he had to undergo surgery. After this his further cricket career was in trouble. After this surgery, the doctor advised Ashwin to take bed rest for a year. After this Ashwin made a comeback but he has failed to run at that pace as before.

Coach advised to become a spinner

After this, Ashwin’s school cricket coach advised him to become an off-spinner and the school team also needed an off-spinner. After this Ashwin started bowling spin and continued to perform brilliantly. After some time Ashwin was selected in the team of Tamil Nadu. Where he consistently performed well.

HOD reprimanded for examination

Along with playing cricket, Ashwin was also progressing in studies. He joined SSN College of Engineering to pursue engineering from B. Tech. Ashwin did not face any problem in the initial days of college, but before the last exam, some assignments of Ashwin were incomplete. Due to which they had to take permission from HOD to appear in the exam. For which Ashwin went to HOD.

Where the HOD overheard him a lot and said that as an engineering student, how far are you on the ground? A student also works hard on the field for a degree. You just play cricket and come to college in your spare time. What have you done to earn this degree?’ After this, Ashwin spoke very politely to the HOD and talked about concentrating on further studies. But Ashwin started taking cricket more seriously because of his studies and kept moving forward.

Due to good performance in domestic cricket, got a chance in IPL

Ashwin continued to play for Tamil Nadu and did well. In 2006-07, Ashwin made 31 strokes for Tamil Nadu at an average of 20. After this, Ashwin put on many more match-winning performances. The result of which he got in 2009. Where Chennai Super Kings bought in IPL. Although Ashwin did not get much opportunities in that season, but he got to learn a lot from the legendary cricketers. After this, in the year 2010, R Ashwin was selected for the Indian team against Zimbabwe and in the year 2010 itself, R Ashwin made his international debut for the Indian team.

Recently completed 400 wickets

R Ashwin never looked back after this. Ashwin was also a member of the 2011 World winning Indian team. In the same year, he made his Test debut against the West Indies and Ashwin took 5 wickets in the debut match itself. He became the seventh bowler from India to do so. After this, Ashwin continued to perform well and became an important member of the Indian cricket team. Recently Ashwin completed his 400 wickets in Test against England.
